Vestibular Balance Testing in Melbourne

At Acute Hearing Solutions, we offer comprehensive vestibular balance testing to help identify the cause of dizziness, vertigo, and balance related problems.

Understanding Balance Disorders and What Causes Them

Your inner ear plays a central role in maintaining your balance. The vestibular system, located within the inner ear, works together with your vision and sensory signals from your body to keep you stable and upright. When any part of this system is not functioning correctly, it can result in dizziness, vertigo, unsteadiness, and a general feeling of disorientation that can significantly affect your daily life.

Balance disorders can arise from a number of causes, including inner ear infections, Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, Meniere’s disease, vestibular neuritis, head injury and certain medications. Because hearing and balance share the same inner ear structures, changes in hearing are also commonly associated with balance problems. A thorough vestibular assessment is often the most effective way to identify the underlying cause and determine the right course of treatment.

Do You Need a Balance Test?

If you are experiencing any of the following, a vestibular balance assessment may be recommended:

Persistent or recurring dizziness or vertigo

A sensation of spinning or unsteadiness when moving your head

Difficulty maintaining balance when walking or standing

Nausea associated with head or body movement

Unexplained falls or a feeling of being off balance

Dizziness accompanied by changes in your hearing or tinnitus

If you answered yes to one or more of these, we recommend booking a vestibular assessment with one of our experienced audiologists at Acute Hearing Solutions.
